The Állatkert (Zoo) Boulevard was lined by stalls selling gifts, toys and fast food for decades, but these grew increasingly weather-beaten and outdated. One of the objectives of the Liget Budapest Project is to fully revamp these facilities too: the obsolete row of stalls was demolished in 2016 and replaced by new pavilions that preserve the traditions of the Liget.
The new pavilions were built according to the original, Oriental designs made by Frigyes Feszl in 1860.
The small buildings evoke the nostalgic atmosphere of Városliget, while the interiors meet the most modern requirements. Thus, the gastronomical and commercial function of the City Park will continue in buildings whose design is harmonised with the park.
The three new pavilions will house a pleasant café and patisserie, an art gift shop, and a shop selling recreational equipment (picnic accessories, outdoor games, umbrellas, etc.).
