Liget Budapest Project wins award for the world’s best urban development at the ‘Oscar of the real estate industry’
The Liget Budapest Project has been awarded the title of the world’s best urban development at the FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence. The honour was conferred at the most prestigious competition in international real estate by a jury of global experts in Lagos, Nigeria in recognition of the project’s complexity, sustainability and urban planning significance.
The FIABCI jury, composed of leading professionals from around the world, selected the comprehensive concept of the Liget Budapest – its “Master Plan” serving as the basis for the historic renewal of the City Park – as the world’s best in recognition of its complexity, sustainability and urban development significance. The jury statement in the World Gold Winner of the Master Plan category emphasised the development’s aesthetic qualities, environmentally conscious approach, and exceptional visitor experience as key factors, thanks to which the Liget has become a global model of contemporary urban development.
Today, Liget Budapest is Europe’s largest-scale cultural urban development project, within its popularity remaining undiminished: it draws in over ten million visitors annually, while its new cultural institutions quickly became major landmarks in Budapest. The cultural palette of the park attracts large numbers of tourists both from Hungary and abroad: the renewing City Park has become a frequent feature in guidebooks, travel recommendations, and international top rankings. This latest FIABCI recognition further strengthens its international reputation.

“It is a tremendous honour that the Liget Budapest Project’s comprehensive concept – in the framework of which our century-old cultural institutions have been revitalised, while some of the world’s most exciting contemporary buildings were constructed alongside the rehabilitation of green spaces – has been recognised by the international jury as the best in its category. This award confirms that the renewal of the City Park has created exceptional value for both Budapest and, in a wider sense, for Hungary. It once again proves that Hungarian professionals are capable of achieving excellence on a global stage. We are proud to say that in the first ten years of the project, we have received over fifty prestigious international accolades in the areas of property development, culture and tourism. The aim of the Liget Budapest Project was to create a 21st-century urban environment in City Park that is sustainable and respectful of historical heritage, while serving the local communities, culture, green space preservation and international tourism alike. This award confirms that it was worth taking a long-term, value-based approach to shaping the future of one of the capital’s most important green areas,” said Benedek Gyorgyevics, CEO of Városliget Zrt., the company overseeing the project.
The International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), headquartered in Paris and active in more than 60 countries, was founded in 1951 and has organised its FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence competition annually. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the award is the most prestigious global award of the real estate industry. This year’s jury included 63 distinguished experts from 31 countries, representing every facet of the real estate development sector.
