Museum Underground Parking - parking in Városliget

With the implementation of the Liget Budapest Project, one of our main objectives is to reduce traffic in the park, in addition to renewing and expanding the green area of the park, which still represents a huge environmental burden on the flora and fauna of Városliget. As a first step, we have eliminated surface parking on the 56’ Square, and visitors can now use the Museum Underground Parking, which can accommodate around 800 cars on three levels and also includes an enclosed bicycle storage. The special feature of the underground garage is that its interiors are decorated with works by contemporary Hungarian artists, which not only enhance visual experience, but also help users find their way.

Museum Underground Parking is open 24/7, every day of the year.

After 22:00 PM, the metal gates automatically open when a car stops in front of them, granting entrance to the Underground Parking.

Discounted annual parking pass for residents

Discounted annual parking pass for residents

The Museum Underground Parking also offers residents of the districts surrounding Városliget (Districts 6, 7, and 14) discounted parking passes. Only those residents of the said districts are eligible to the residential parking pass, who have a valid residential parking permit in one of the districts. With this pass, they are entitled to use the parking lot up to 200 parking spaces during the hours not included in the outside paying parking period (17:00 PM – 9:00 AM).

  • Discounted parking pass for residents of Districts 6, 7 & 14
The Discounted parking pass for residents of Districts 6, 7 & 14 is valid upon activation until 28 February of the year following the year of the purchase, every day between 17:00 PM and 9:00 AM, and costs HUF 2000 (registration fee).

Process of acquiring a residential parking pass
  1. In order to activate your residential parking pass, you must already have a valid residential parking permit in Districts 6, 7, or 14.
  2. The residential parking pass can be requested online at the ligetplusz.hu website, after you register to the Liget+ community and pay the administration fee.
  3. To activate your parking pass, you have to upload a photocopy of your valid residential parking permit from one of the mentioned districts to your Liget+ account.
  4. If the verification of the uploaded document is successful, the parking pass will be activated.
  5. Please note: The operator guarantees 200 parking spaces at a time for holders of the yearly residential parking pass free of charge. The use of these 200 spaces works based on order of arrival.
How does the residential parking pass work?
  1. If a resident of District 6, 7, or 14 has a valid residential parking pass acquired from ligetplusz.hu, they can enter Museum Underground Parking free of charge with the car registered to the pass between 17:00 PM and 9:00 AM.
  2. The number of available residential parking passes is unlimited, however only a maximum of 200 cars with such passes are allowed to be in the underground parking at a time.
  3. The current number of available residential parking spaces can be checked at www.ligetbudapest.hu/latogatoknak/muzeum-melygarazs or on the availability board by the outside entrance of the underground parking.
  4. If a resident of District 6, 7, or 14 has a valid residential parking pass and there are less than 200 cars with residential passes currently in the underground parking, at the gate the system automatically prints a parking ticket labelled ‘Residential Parking’.
  5. If no residential ticket is printed at the gate, the 200 residential parking spaces are already full. In this case, the normal parking fees apply to residential pass holders as well. If the resident does not wish to use the underground parking this way, they can leave the underground parking through the exit within 15 minutes after getting a regular ticket at the entrance gate.
  6. If the system does not print a ticket at the gate although there should be available residential parking spaces based on the website or the availability board, please call the Information Desk from the gate for help.
