Munkácsy – The anatomy of success

The large-scale exhibition on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the birth and 125th anniversary of the death of Mihály Munkácsy (1844–1900) features more than a hundred works of art, archival photographs, documents, and cult objects, which help to gain an even better understanding of the life, achievements and incomparably rich oeuvre of one of the most famous Hungarian painters. The main objective of the jubilee exhibition is to chart Munkácsy's artistic success story, presenting his well-known works from a new perspective, through the lens of his ground-breaking career.

Miklós Perényi Solo Recital

With his coherently crafted and unclassifiable style and his uncompromising and profound sophistication having earned him a spot as one of the greatest living (and all-time greatest) representatives of Hungarian culture decades ago, cellist Miklós Perényi invariably strives to penetrate to the very essence of the works he plays in order to captivate the audience at their innermost cores. His October recital will feature one of his own compositions alongside two cornerstones of the cello literature. Also there to chat with the artist will be programme host and House of Music managing director András Batta.

The Museum of Ethnography will soon welcome you with a new permanent collection exhibition, which affects the public areas of the museum and the Liget Budapest Visitor Center as well, so the museum will be closed for the summer months in order to welcome visitors with the new exhibition and renovated spaces in early autumn. During this time, the building’s rooftop garden, conference room, and restaurant will remain open to visitors.

The Museum of Ethnography’s grandiose permanent exhibition is currently being mounted

The Museum of Ethnography’s new permanent exhibition, currently being mounted, will present a greater part of the institution’s collection than ever before. The exhibition space with a floor area of more than three thousand square metres can be visited from September with nearly three thousand artefacts on display. The Museum of Ethnography’s new, modern building, constructed in the City Park within the framework of the Liget Budapest project and meeting the professional and visitor needs of the 21st-century, has attracted more than half a million visitors since its opening in 2022.
