Munkácsy – The anatomy of success

The large-scale exhibition on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the birth and 125th anniversary of the death of Mihály Munkácsy (1844–1900) features more than a hundred works of art, archival photographs, documents, and cult objects, which help to gain an even better understanding of the life, achievements and incomparably rich oeuvre of one of the most famous Hungarian painters. The main objective of the jubilee exhibition is to chart Munkácsy's artistic success story, presenting his well-known works from a new perspective, through the lens of his ground-breaking career.

Mesopotamia. Kingdom of Gods and Demons

The exhibition in the Ionic Hall of the Museum of Fine Arts is the first in Hungary dedicated to ancient Mesopotamia. One of the outstanding strengths of our exhibition is that it brings together more than 150 objects loaned by seven prominent European collections, offering unparalleled insight into the world of this long-lost culture.

It is very likely that many more people know Rodrigo Amarante and his songs than they might think. Millions of television viewers heard his composition Tuyo, when it was used as the main theme for the series Narcos. And countless others know him from the band Little Joy , which he founded together with Fab Moretti of the Strokes and Binki Shapiro. The Brazilian songwriter/performer has written songs together with Norah Jones, Gal Costa and Gilberto Gil, in addition to collaborating with Adam Green, Devendra Banhart, Kevin Morby and Natalia Lafourcade. In his homeland, he was a member of Los Hermanos, one of Brazil’s most famous rock groups, and played for years with the samba big band Orquestra Imperial. His solo records are equally lavish, making this lad's live shows absolutely unmissable!

The Museum of Ethnography will soon welcome you with a new permanent collection exhibition, which affects the public areas of the museum and the Liget Budapest Visitor Center as well, so the museum will be closed for the summer months in order to welcome visitors with the new exhibition and renovated spaces in early autumn. During this time, the building’s rooftop garden, conference room, and restaurant will remain open to visitors.

The Museum of Ethnography’s grandiose permanent exhibition is currently being mounted

The Museum of Ethnography’s new permanent exhibition, currently being mounted, will present a greater part of the institution’s collection than ever before. The exhibition space with a floor area of more than three thousand square metres can be visited from September with nearly three thousand artefacts on display. The Museum of Ethnography’s new, modern building, constructed in the City Park within the framework of the Liget Budapest project and meeting the professional and visitor needs of the 21st-century, has attracted more than half a million visitors since its opening in 2022.
